Many of our regular clients will know our Head of Finance Operations, Lauren Davis, very well as she is central to our day to day activity. If we have looked after a transaction for you – Lauren would have been the driver behind the result. Everybody in life has a story and Lauren has something very close to her heart and we as a business support.
9 years ago Lauren lost her older brother, Mat, to a Brain Tumour. Here is Mat’s story.
What is the Mat Davis Foundation?
In the Summer of 2009, the lives of the family were turned upside down when her 20-year-old brother, Mathew (Lauren was 18 at the time), was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous Grade 2 Brain Tumour.
Against all odds this didn’t stop her brother from living, he holidayed and partied just like any other 20-year-old would. And in the meantime, while undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment he personally raised over £15,000 for Cancer Research UK through a number of brave fundraising activities including a leg wax, 80’s night and even cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats.
In the Spring of 2012 the family were served even more heart-breaking news, Mathews’ Brain Tumour had changed to a Grade 4. Devastatingly, Mat’s courageous fight came to an end on the 3rd of November 2012. Mat’s final wish was to set up a charity to help others that were faced with a similar situation to him and hence the charity was formed.
We wholeheartedly support this foundation in recognition of young people struck down by this devastating disease. To be taken from life so young is a major injustice and all we can do is ensure that we are here to help in the time of need. Cancer is ruthless and only through financial investment can we ever hope to halt its path.
