The Old Racing Car Company was launched in 2006 inspired by the decision of Max Mosley, then head of the FIA, to allow ‘tool room’ copies, or recreations, to race in historic events. Though controversial at the time the introduction of Historical Technical Passport (HTP) showed great foresight, as the rapidly rising values of historic race cars, like the Jaguar D-Type and Ferrari 250 GTO left owners with the dilemma of whether they should continue to race or retire their priceless investments. FIA-approved recreations gave owners the option to compete in a ‘clone’ of their own car, while protecting the original, and in this way the ‘tool room copy’ has helped sustain exciting and exotic grids at events around the world.
