Ferrari Fever at Salon Privé

The 2017 Salon Privé is only a few days away, and this year’s show has a distinctly Ferrari feel to it. The Concours Masters ‘Tribute to 70 Years of Ferrari’ celebration includes over fifty wonderful prancing horses that will be gracing the Blenheim Palace lawn this weekend, and we will be there as always, circulating with you, our client!

The display will include some very early Ferraris, including a 1949 166 Inter Coupe, the oldest surviving, UK-based Ferrari. There will also be a 1953 250 Inter-Europa Coupe with coachwork by Vignale, and from the same year a superb 250MM.

For the racing enthusiast, highlights include a wonderful Scaglietti-bodied 1956 Ferrari 500 TR, plus a 365 GTB/4 Competizione from 1972. Actor and automotive icon Steve McQueen’s 250 Lusso will also be on display.

The ‘modern classics’ era is also very well represented, with cars including a 288 GTO and an F40 prototype, a car once owned by Ferrari Motorsport Director and F1 Principal, Marco Piccinini, given to him by Enzo Ferrari himself.

More recent models include a 360 Challenge Stradale, a 599 GTO, an Enzo and a LaFerrari Aperta – the first Aperta to be officially imported into the UK.

With the calibre of Ferraris on display the 11 judges – including Head Judge Derek Bell MBE, Coldplay band member Guy Berryman, supermodel Yasmin Le Bon, and a host of Ferrari historians – will have a tough decision on their hands. 25 awards will be presented on the Saturday, with owners vying for the most coveted awards, including the People’s Choice, Owners’ Choice, and Ladies’ Choice.

At the same time as the Ferrari concours, Silverstone Auctions will once again host their Salon Privé Sale with 70 classic car lots, the majority of which are priced at under £100,000. Bidding commences on Saturday 2nd September at 2.30pm.

Now in its 12th consecutive year, Salon Privé will have more than 150 supercars, hypercars, and classic cars on display throughout the three-day event. In addition to the Ferrari concours on Saturday, 2nd September, the Chubb Insurance Concours d’Elegance takes place on Thursday 31st and Boodles Ladies’ Day on Friday 1st September.
