About the Ferrari Dino:
The Dino was created to allow Ferrari compete with the more affordable Porsche 911 without using an expensive V12 engine. It may be strange to think of it now, but when the Dino 206 GT first appeared in showrooms, the mid engined rear wheel drive format was unusual for a road car. Although seen before on the 1966 Lamborghini Muira, a mid engined layout was normally confined to the race track only. Despite the protestations of Enzo Ferrari, the Dino made it into production as a road car. The rest, as we say, is history.
Cars like the Muira and Dino carved a path that many to this day still follow.
