About the Aston Martin DB4:
The Aston Martin DB4 arrived in 1958, and remained in production until 1963 when it was replaced by the DB5. 1,204 were produced, of which 1,185 were in DB4 form with 14 being DB4 GT Zagatos.
Designed by Carrozzeria Touring in Milan and launched at the 1958 London Motorshow, the combined Italian styling with British engineering. It was a motor show sensation. The DB4 was the first Aston Martin to be built at the Newport Pagnell works in Buckinghamshire.
Powered by a 3.7 litre straight six engine, the DB4 produced 240hp giving it a top speed of around 135mph. 0-60mph was covered in 9.3 seconds.
Through it’s life cycle the DB4 went through 5 ‘Series’. Series II cars had window frames and an updated barred grille, series III cars had different tail lights with three small lamps on a single chrome backing plate. Later Series V cars have these tail lights recessed, as well as a taller and longer body to provide more interior space. Overall height was maintained the same by having smaller diameter wheels.
These later Series V cars also had a more aerodynamic style, a style that would continue with the DB5.
A convertible was offered in 1961, with just 70 of the over 1,100 cars leaving the factory as soft tops.
About this Aston Martin DB4:
This 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Series IV is in Goodwood Green with Black Hide Leather and benefits from leather edged, best quality Wilton carpet.
It was restored by Runnymede in 2000 and has covered just 19,000 miles since then. At the time of the restoration, various upgrades were specified. These included increasing engine capacity from 3800cc to 4200cc and a triple-carburettor fuel system as per Vantage variations, instead of the original twin-carburettors. The result of this is a noticeable increase in power through the rev range, with improved torque and better acceleration.
The road holding has been improved with stronger springs, slightly stiffer shock absorbers and a larger diameter anti-roll bar. All of this combined gives the car a much more positive feel. A enlowe Electric fan and a high capacity oil cooler assists with engine cooling, and the car wears 72 spoke chrome wire wheels with 3 eared Borrani spinners with a perfect set of Avon Turbospeed tyres.
